Michelle

Thank you for just being you to me through your trust and obedience to Christ - covering all the music and writing that resonates so personally to me through the years, even now, and tomorrow to come. Pretty general thank you for a broad span of years, maybe more specific later. :) Quick question - who have you read or do you read when you sit down with a book?

Thank you Michelle! right now, I am reading Madame Guyon, Spiritual Letters. If you go to the blog section, you can see what my thoughts are on it, along with other readers thoughts. For fun, I reade mystery novels. I just finished up with Point of Origin, Patricia Cornwell. Good "flight" material! Maggie

Thank you for your music, Margaret, it has blessed me and my wife greatly at different times in our lives. I have two questions for you. (1) We pastor a church in Latin America and want to sing your song, "Just Come In" to our congregation. Are you aware of a good Spanish translation of it ( I have done one but am not happy with it...) (2) In this part of the world we see much of the effects of people trying to pay for their own sins through penance taught by the Catholic church (and other forms of 'penance' taught by evangelicals.... ) "Just Come In" obviously speaks to the fact that Jesus paid that price so we don't have to do penance. I have read on your blog about your negative experiences in churches and how that helped lead you to a more Catholic type of faith; how does "penance" fit in with that? Once again thank you and God bless!

Hey Peter. thanks for the kind words.

Use your translation for Just Come In, I know of no other.

Penance: I have viewed this in two ways.

First, that my relationship is with God first, and his forgiveness is complete and enough. I think sometimes, in my experience at least, the "act" of Penance served more as a reminder to me of the price that was paid for my freedom, not necessarily as a substitution for God's sacrifice, but just a tangible reminder of the gift made to me.

And secondly, sometimes, again in my experience, the physical act of telling someone my shortcomings, (Priest and confession) was again, a tangible, deliberate act that signaled to my entire being that I was choosing to walk a different way, to walk away from sin, and to walk towards Grace. There was a time when it served to assure me that my misteps were blotted out. Again--not because I needed that ultimately for true redemption, but as a reminder, a physical act that allowed me to "leave that right there."

These are all only my thoughts, and by no means exhaustive or sanctioned. : - )
